ReviewBehind the Brown Door is an adult film comprised of five mostly-unrelated vignettes. In each segment, we are introduced to a couple who immediately get down to business, go through a variety of sexual positions, and have, shall we say, a rather anal finale. None of the action is really inspiring, there is essentially no plot, and there is almost nothing in the way of dialogue aside from your usual grunts and moans. More so than anything else, Behind the Brown Door comes across to viewers as if the director and stars had nothing better to do for the afternoon, and decided to waste a few hours filming a bunch of random sex sequences that they put into some future film. What should further clue you in to how much faith the "creative people" had in their own film is that neither the director nor the writer opted to receive any screen credit. The first segment in the film brings a new meaning to the term "bumping uglies," when the repulsive Red Bone and equally-repulsive Raveness spend some time together on a couch. There is actually about a minute of dialogue at the beginning of this first segment. Next up is a segment featuring somewhat-attractive blonde Barbara Doll and Tom Chapman starting in a pool and ending up on an outside recliner. Rub a dub dub...there's fun in the tub when Nikki Sinn (who has a large peacock tattooed on her left breast) and Marc Wallice go at it in what is definitely the best segment in the film. Afterwards, Steve Drake and Tess Newhart break in a couch (again, there is some very minor dialogue in this segment). Finally, the film ends in lesbian sequence featuring Barbara Doll, Chayse Manhattan and a certain happy plastic pal who's fun to be with they play inside and outside the house, but you should know that this segment has nothing to do with the general "anal theme" set up earlier in the film. Entertainment and Plush Entertainment, the Behind the Brown Door laserdisc
does look quite good. The imagery is bright and sharp, and originated from
a video source (likely Betacam). The fleshtones come across accurately for
the most part, although in one segment the pool sequence - the skintones
go somewhat blue-green during the extreme closeups (this is due to the videographer
forgetting to color balance the camera before filming, and is not a problem
with the transfer). For CAV side two, the amount of jitter in a frame depends
on the amount of movement at any individual moment.
